Dr. Joan Serafin, a political science professor at Frostburg State University, is the winner of the 2022 Global Citizenship Award, in recognition of her commitment to and scholarship of developing globally engaged curricula and opportunities for students at FSU to understand their place and purpose in the greater world, and in turn raising the profile of FSU as a leading institution in the global education field.

The Global Citizenship Award recognizes one outstanding campus-community partnership that produces measurable impact in both student participants and the community. Consideration is given to those who have demonstrated sustainability, reciprocity and mutual collaboration.

Located in Frederick, Md., Transform Mid-Atlantic is a nonprofit association of more than 37 institutions of higher education in Maryland, Washington, D.C., and Delaware. Recognizing distinguished faculty, administrators, students and campus-community partnerships, the awards highlight achievements in service-learning, civic leadership and community engagement that enhance student learning and positively impact communities.

An awards ceremony for winners, their invited guests and campus representatives will take place on Tuesday, Dec. 13, from 4 to 6 p.m. on the campus of Hood College in Frederick, Md. TMA’s awards program takes place annually, with nominations accepted in the spring and winners announced in the fall.
